Saturated and luminous colour infuses Gesang-Gottowt's botanical and landscape forms. It's magical!

    From the publisher:
Clara Gesang-Gottowt is a contemporary artist from Stockholm, known for her ethereal, introspective paintings that explore themes of memory, time and the fragility of the human experience. Her work is characterised by a dreamlike quality, often blurring the line between abstraction and figuration. Gesang-Gottowt’s use of soft, muted colour palettes and layered brushstrokes create a sense of depth and atmosphere, inviting viewers into intimate and contemplative spaces. Gesang-Gottowt’s painting style has an extraordinary subtlety and sensitivity to light, texture and mood. This allows her to create poetic compositions that chime of impermanence and the passage of time.

The artist’s return to landscapes as subject reiterates the timeless and enduring metaphors that the natural world holds for our inner worlds. Horizons and storms allow us to project our own emotions into something physical yet ever changing.

The book contains plenty of paintings by Clara Gesang-Gottowt from the years 2020–2025, and together with her previous book (Målningar/Paintings 2012–2019), serve to create a sort of archive of the artist’s work. In addition to a preface by the artist herself, the book also contains a conversation between Clara Gesang-Gottowt and art critic Adam Rosenkvist, where she delves into her creative process and her sources of inspiration.

Clara Gesang-Gottowt (b. 1985), lives and works in Lund, Sweden. Gesang-Gottowt graduated from the MFA programme at the Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm in 2013. Her works are included in the permanent collections of Moderna Museet (Stockholm) and Malmö Konstmusem (Malmö) among other institutions.
